Australian singer-songwriter Nardia Brancatisano has made a major impact at the 2025 International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, reaching the Top 5 Finals in the Band Category among more than 400 acts from around the world. In doing so, she became the only female-fronted act to reach the band finals, marking a significant milestone for Australian blues on the international stage.
Backed by her powerhouse band, Justin Yap (guitar), Yuri Pavlinov (bass) and Mark Aird (drums), Nardia delivered a series of commanding performances across multiple heats on the iconic Beale Street, earning widespread praise from audiences, judges and industry professionals alike.
Known for her soulful storytelling, commanding vocals and magnetic stage presence, Nardia captivated Memphis audiences from the opening round. The band’s electrifying musicianship also drew strong attention throughout the competition, with guitarist Justin Yap emerging as a standout performer. His fiery solos and relentless stage energy became a talking point among crowds, particularly during moments where broken guitar strings and on-stage mishaps only intensified the performance rather than slowing it down.
By the time the finals arrived, Nardia and her band had become one of the most talked-about acts on Beale Street, earning recognition for their authenticity, chemistry and high-calibre musicianship.
“From the very first heat, we felt the energy shift,” Nardia said. “Memphis audiences live and breathe blues music, so to have them embrace us the way they did was incredibly special. By the finals, people were stopping us in the street to say we were the act to watch. It was surreal.”
Adding to the Australian success at the event, fellow MBAS representative Nick Charles received the award for Best Guitarist in the Solo/Duo category, further highlighting the strength of Australian blues talent on the global stage.
Hosted annually by The Blues Foundation, the International Blues Challenge is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the global blues calendar, providing emerging and established artists with an international platform to showcase their talent.
For Nardia and her band, the 2025 event represents a defining career moment and signals growing international recognition for Australian blues music.
